Eco Deodorants have come a long way over the years, I get it - no one wants to smell of BO but these days you have so may great options to choose from when it comes to the best eco deodorants. Natural Deodorant may seem strange at first; they are different from the aerosol options you can get from most supermarkets. Eco Deodorants come in a variety of applicators such as a roll on, paste, or stick.
I have been on the hunt for the best eco deodorant for some time, making the switch to Natural Deodorants full time around 8 years ago. The main driver for me was I wanted to use a natural product that was free of aluminum. Some studies are showing an increase in Alzheimer's later in life by up to 60% and there is a strong link to cancer as well. Research and studies are still ongoing, but if there is a chance that this is the case, then going natural until the verdict is out is something worth considering.
I didn't like the first few years of using a Natural Deodorant to be honest, as I felt they didn't work as well in keeping the pong level down. But persistence and continuing to trial new products as they emerge has lead me to find my one true love at the moment.
The Salt + Stone Deodorants are my current no# 1 Natural Deodorant choice. They are made with baking soda and are suitable for all skin types. It is a stick deodorant which I am loving and it glides on clear, with no residue or stains. Salt + Stone treats the skin at the same time with soothing and skin-loving hyaluronic acid, whilst prebiotics neutralizes odor.
To top it all off they are made in recyclable packaging made from ocean plastic - 18 bottles diverted from landfills!
Now I am fully converted and won't ever go back to conventional deodorants!
Here are more reasons why I love using Natural Deodorants:
- Some conventional deodorants use ingredients that clog our pores, so you will actually sweat more. Bacteria also thrive when they are deprived of oxygen, leading to more smelly armpits. Allowing your skin to breathe will naturally reduce your smell levels.
- They are free of synthetic ingredients and are healthier for you and the environment.
- Aluminum compounds form a temporary “plug” within the sweat duct that stops the flow of sweat to the skin's surface. Some research suggests that aluminum-containing underarm antiperspirants, which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin and have estrogen-like (hormonal) effects (1.)
- Conventional deodorants contain parabens which have an estrogenic action in the skin; parabens have been found in breast tumors, but to date no evidence to show that they cause breast cancer, more studies need to be done. (2.)
