Vitamin C is one of the very effective collagen and elastin stimulators available, with mega anti-aging benefits:
- - It is a tyrosinase inhibitor - meaning it inhibits the overproduction of melanin. Good for lightening melasma, even skin tone, and prevention of further UVA/UVB damage.
- - It helps strengthen your capillary walls, great for clients who are prone to rosacea, sensitive skin and the like. But strong forms of Vitamin C such as ascorbic acid can be a little too much for rosacea skins in the initial phase, hence the need for a gentler Vitamin C such as the form found in the skin matrix antioxidant cream
- - Vitamin C also regenerates oxidized vitamin E, which in turn helps reduce free radical damage and further cell degradation
- - Fabulous repairing abilities to the skin for clients who have had their fair share of sun exposure.
Vitamin C is available in many different forms. I believe one of the better forms is Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate. It is fat-soluble so it can penetrate through the lipid membrane of the cell wall very easily. This form of vitamin C is made by taking the natural form of Vitamin C and adding 4 additional molecules to the corners of the molecule. This gives this molecule some very important advantages:
- - Lipid soluble - penetrates the skin easily
- - Does not require a low pH to get it to penetrate the skin so it does not sting
- - It stimulates your skin to make its own natural moisturizers called glycosaminoglycans. Glycosaminoglycans will allow your skin to absorb moisture from your body which reduces the need for applying other moisturizers
- - It is stable in air and water for up to 18 months which means it will work as an anti-oxidant long after you start using it.
