Read my Top 3 reasons why using a facial moisturiser will benefit you.
# 1 Benefit of Using a Facial Moisturiser: Balanced Acid Mantle = Strong Skin
The surface of our skin in technical skin terms is called the Acid Mantle. The Acid Mantle is what protects our skin from the external environment. This is comprised of water, fatty acids, lactic acid, urea, and amino acids. Have you ever cleansed your skin and your skin is left feeling tight and uncomfortable? This is a sign your acid mantle is impaired. A facial moisturiser will repair and restore your acid mantle, ensuring that the skin remains protected from the harsh external environment. Wintertime is common for tight, flaking, itchy skin conditions; moisturising is a quick fix measure that you can reap the rewards after your first application. Sensitive skins generally have an impaired acid mantle, hence the importance of a facial moisturiser for all skin types, including oily skins. Yes, even oily skin types can reap the rewards from a lightweight water-based moisturiser.
# 2 Benefit of Using a Facial Moisturiser: You reduce water loss from the skin = maximum hydration
The no.1 reason I advise my clients why they should be using a Facial Moisturiser is to prevent water loss. A happy Acid Mantle will also prevent water loss, but applying your favourite moisturiser morning and night will act as a permeable membrane that will prevent water loss from your epidermis thus keeping your skin hydrated and plump. If your skin looks crepey or has very small surface lines, there is a very good chance that by increasing your skins hydration by using a moisturiser that is more hydrating (or simply starting to use one!) your skin will become softer, smoother and your make up will apply with a flawless finish. If you are already using a moisturiser and want MORE, try these hydrating booster serums to be added to your moisturiser. These products will not make you break out.

# 3 Benefit of Using a Facial Moisturiser: There is a HIGH chance you will break out less
When I see my acne clients for the first time, 95% of them have a severely dehydrated skin. Their skins are craving for some moisturiser and they are craving for a strong acid mantle. Their acid mantle is impaired from over using harsh astringent products that strip their skin. It is amazing and very satisfying when I put my acne clients onto the correct moisturiser for their skin type and condition and sit back and watch their skin flourish. If you are using any acid products (AHA's or BHA's) then you really need to get onto a good moisturiser. But all of us, oily or dry skin type, will benefit from using a moisturiser. Go for a more water based moisturiser if you have an oily skin and a water/oil combo if you have any skin type other than oily.
The photo below shows open comedones (blackheads), a skin that is lacking in hydration and the pores are clogged with sebum (oil) and keratin (skin cells). Switching to a water based moisturiser, using a gentle AHA/BHA exfoliator and gentle AHA/BHA serum will assist this skin condition greatly. The use of AHA's/BHA's without a moisturiser will continue to flare this condition further.
