WHY YOU NEED SALICYLIC ACID IN YOUR LIFE IF YOU HAVE BREAKOUTS
Salicylic Acid is one of the most effective ingredients in banishing the blemish. It takes acne and blemishes head-on targeting the uppermost layers of the skin and within the pore. This wondrous ingredient is oil soluble meaning it has the ability to dissolve oil within the pore which creates more space allowing one's own oil to flow freely through the pore and onto the surface of the skin. Congestion results in both a build-up of dead cells within the pore and an increase in oil flow. The oil and dead cells form a plug and thus create a spot.
Salicylic Acid works by helping the skin shed dead cells from the top layer and reduces swelling and inflammation. Salicylic Acid decreases the number of spots that form and speeds up the healing.
Salicylic Acid can be found in cleanser, toners, moisturiser, serums and masks. Not only will it speed up the healing time and decrease spots it gives the skin a smoother and softer feel.
Sometimes the skin itself may not have the ability to shed as well as it is meant to, creating a build up of dead cells not only on the surface of the skin but within the pore as well. This is where Salicylic Acid comes in, it loosens these cells and helps to dissolve blackheads.
When using Salicylic Acid it is advised not to use abrasive soaps or cleansers, Tretinoin, or other medicated products unless prescribed by your Doctor. Salicylic Acid can be drying on the skin and so it is advised to either stop the Salicylic Acid at the first sign of dryness, skin tightness or flaking and consult with your Skin Care Specialist who can guide you and recommend the amount of Salicylic Acid to use and increase dosage as required.
My best tip would be to ensure that the skin is hydrated well before starting on a Salicylic Product, that way the barrier of your skin is intact and is not vulnerable to the drying effects Salicylic Acid can have. Moisturising with a light oil free product will assist you in creating a healthy skin barrier that is ready for Salicylic Acid application.
